May 15, 2012- So alot has been read between now and Feburary but the one series that stands out the most is of course all the rage THE HUNGER GAMES loved loved loved books one and two book three could have been better but it could have been worse. I am now reading a book called Slathbog's Gold and its been pretty good so far it falls into the young reader category so its more suited for preteens but it still is good. The second The Beyonders book has come out and I have gotten 3/4 of the way through it and stopped its not terrible its just so dry that someone as busy as I am can hardly stand to take the time to read it. I have not bought the latest Kim Harrison book but my sister says its wonderful so I am sure it is she is the one who made me read the Hunger Games (the movie was good the books are better). Well as always looking for more advice on books.
Feburary 18, 2012- I know I said sorry earlier but I am repeating it. I have read several awesome books/series. I read the True Blood series and fell completely in love with it so addicting for people who love the fantasy vampires, weres, and other mystical stuff. Then I read Vampirates book 1 which is great for little readers who like vampires but need something a little more tame than what adults read or is in Twilight. Then I happened upon this Children of the Red King series in the young readers section of the library and its ok it could be worse but it could be more intersting. However good news on the horizon the new Kim Harrison book Pale Demon is coming out and going to be in Las Angelos and San Diego signing books in March I am so making the trip out to see him and looking forward to it. When I am done with the Children of the Red King series I am going to reread the series with the Black Cauldron in it. I remember reading it in 6th grade and loved it so I will read it to my son and hopefully he will enjoy it like I did. As always looking for more advice on new books.
September 18, 2011- Still no word on the library books probably because it is Sunday and the library is not open will have to go there after dropping the kiddo off at preschool to see if they have them picked out for me. I was looking at my favorite author's website <3 Kim Harrison and she has a graphic novel out from Ivy's point of view and a couple of short stories with Rachel and Her Brother and then one with Jenks but will have to visit the site again to get the titles I remember the one with Rachel its call Holidays are Hell. So besides writing a stroy for the hell of it I will try to squeeze in as much reading as I can to make up for the fact that for the past 4 years Ihave had precious little time for it.
September 16, 2011- I have officially finished the Beyonders!! In the same way that the great Fabelhaven series panned out just as I was getting so engrossed in the book that I couldn't wait to find out what happened next...it ended. Wonder when the next one will come out. Until then I will have to tide myself over with his solitary book The Candy Shop Wars which I have been told is a fabulous adventure and it is contained all in the one book. Until it is ready for pick up at the library however I will bide my time rereading Anne McCaffery's book Dragonquest or maybe it was the White Dragon. However if you have read her book Moreta: Dragon Lady of Pern or something like that maybe it was Dragonrider instead of Lady prepare to not be very happy SPOILER ALERT she dies!!! I couldn't believe it the main character that has survived an epidemic new to Pern but old to us it was gasp...the flu and delivered the newly developed vaccine to all the holds, weyrs, and such only to die. Then they didn't even punish those whose duty she was doing and wouldn't have died doing if they would have only done what they were suppose to instead of cower in fear. Like the Beyonders this book (I actually listened to the book on tape which is why I was finished with it so much faster) was hard to get into and if I hadn't of been driving I probably would have returned it to the library.
Well today is September 15th, 2011 and you guessed it I am still reading the Beyonders However I have managed to get another chapter into the book. I did acquire the tablet from Verizon. I think it is their cheapest one the Galaxy Tab but I am having fun with it and downloaded a book I would like to read after I finally manage to finish the one I have started. Right now though I am having fun with the tablet by taking it to the dentist's to occupy my son with the movies I have downloaded onto it any one remember Space Jam? Its a fun thing to introduce the youngsters to movies that have been out since forever and they think it is fabulous even though they have no clue who Michael Jordon is or in the case of my BF's kids know way more on him than I would ever like to know because they are into that kind of thing. On the posting from August I forgot to mention my new love for Mango Salsa, the recipe is:
In a large bowl combine:
2-3 cups mango cut into 1/2 inch cubes
1/2 bunch of cilantro finely chopped
1/2 a red onion finely chopped
1 jalapeno finely chopped
combine in a smaller bowl:
4 tablespoons of sugar
2 tablespoons of lime juice
1/4 teaspoon salt
Poor salt/sugar/lime mixture over those in the bigger bowl.
Enjoy though it is better if you give it 10-20 min of rest time in the refrigerator then give it another mix. Great with chips or on fish tacos.
Ok so today is August 20th 2011 and I am still reading the Beyonders. It is not that the book is bad it is just amazing how little time I have actually had to sit and read something non work related or child related, whether it is my child or his children. However I have managed to go and see the second part of the 7th Harry Potter and I have to say i loved it. I can't wait till it comes out on dvd but I do need to invest in the first dvd of book 7. I have all but the 2nd, 5th, 6th, and the two parts of the 7th. I think they would make a handy addition to my collection. So once again if you have any suggestions as to new books or movies you think would make great reading or viewing make you suggestions.
I enjoy reading and am willing to try things once. So I have decided to dedicate a page to things I am either trying out or the new book that I happen to be reading. This week's book is Beyonders by Brandon Mull. I have to admit that I am having a hard time getting into it and I'm half way through however his Fabelhaven series was the same way for the first book, where they spent the majority of the book telling you about the magical world that the main characters have now encountered, then afterwards I couldn't put them down. So I have decided to reserve judgement. Any new reading suggestion or movies or food for that matter make your suggestions here.
